Gun Toting Sarah

Our failed VP candidate, pretend author, and quitter Governor Mrs. Palin is at it again spewing her vitriol and her ignorance just to get her pretty face on TV again. Yesterday she attended a fundraiser for the NRA and complained about how Presdent Obama hates guns and wants to take them away. The audience, drunk on their obsession, cheered raucously hailing Sarah as the modern day Annie Oakley. Here is the real deal. When a candidate for President, Barack Obama was asked his opinion about the second amendment. Surprising to me, he indicated based on his own exptertise as a Constitutional scholar, that the second amendment did imply an individual right to bear arms. This is not a very liberal friendly analysis. Additionally, left wing gun control advocates have been loudly expressing serious disappointment with President Obama, having expected support for gun control while not seeing this issue at all on the President's agenda. As usual I must say: "Sarah, what the hell are you blathering about" As Senator Moynahan once said, and I paraphrase: you are entitled to your own opinion, but you are not entitled to your own facts. Where the heck are you Americans for reason and truth?

  1. I think it's a bit naive to think that politicians are not entitled to their own facts. This has always been the way of politics. Distort the facts, noone will really check.

The difference between the 1970-80s and today, is that at the time, the better press was seeking facts. This is no longer the case, as the press, nowadays focus on popularity, and leave facts to scholars. Hence, 'political facts' (and often commercial facts, remain mostly unchecked.

  2. They are entitled to do what politicians do, as destructive as that often is. My naivety stems from a hopefulness for change in the politicians that seek our trust. Incompetence has become a great fear of mine. Perhaps it is better to suggest that I wish alternative points of view could be expressed with accurate information instead of trash talk. Thanks for your comment.

  3. Facts. A minor detail, right? What absolutely drives me crazy about Palin is you can fact check her until the polar bears come home and it won't make a bit of difference to the majority of her followers. Truth is in the eye of the beholder and there's no way to talk reason to 95% of the people who think she's great.
